New Delhi, May 13: In a sharp diplomatic move, India on Tuesday expelled a Pakistani official posted at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, accusing him of espionage. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated the individual was involved in activities inconsistent with his diplomatic status, and has been ordered to leave the country within 24 hours.

The expulsion comes at a time of escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, following the recent military confrontations and the aftermath of Operation Sindoor.

India also issued a formal demarche to the Pakistani Chargé d'Affaires in New Delhi, expressing strong concern over the conduct of the expelled official.

While the MEA refrained from disclosing details, sources indicate that the diplomat was allegedly involved in an espionage case currently under police investigation.

This development adds another layer to the strained bilateral relationship, already under pressure from recent terror attacks, military action, and diplomatic disagreements.
