Udupi, Jan 23: ‘Bhagya’, a Tulu movie based on the daily struggles of a fisherwoman, bagged the top Tulu movie award at ‘Ambit’mini film festival held here on Saturday January 21. 

It’s a movie produced by Disha Communications, national award winner of UNICEF – Prasara Bharati.

A total of 21 movies in Kannada, Tulu, Malayalam, and Hindi were screened at the film festival held in Canara College seminar hall, Kodialbail, Mangalore.  The movie Bhagya, based on the daily struggles of a fisherwoman, which was shot in coastal Karnataka, bagged the award as the top Tulu movie.

The movie’s director Kasargod Chinna, Vijay Kumar Kodialbail, Abdul Rehman Pasha, and Sai Krishna were present on the occasion.
Renowned movie directors Abdul Rehman Pasha, P Sheshadri, and P H Vishwanath were the jurors at the film festival.

Journalist Prakash Suvarna Katpady is the playwright of Bhagya, which was sourced from the story authored by veteran dramatist Raju B Tonse, produced by Francis D’Sa of Shankarapura, near here.  Sandeep Udupi is the cameraman, while Ramesh Kidiyoor and Rohit Malpe are the music directors.

Professor Sujata Shetty Perinje, journalist Suresh Yermal, Leeladhar Shetty Kaup, Sanjeev Salian Kadekar, Nagesh Kamat Katpady, Jalaja Naik, Harish Heroor, Sanjeev Suvarna Katpady, Gangadhar K Kanchan, Sukanya Bantakal, Shaila Kamat, Kavita Kaup, Gokuldas Kamat, Rajesh Acharya, Santosh Panjimar, and Sudarshan Malpe are cast in the movie.
