Mangaluru, May 23: A stabbing incident reported under the Mangaluru rural police station limits on the night of May 22 claimed the life of a 50-year-old man and left his two sons injured.
The deceased has been identified as Suleman (50), son of Ahmed Bhawa and a resident of Vamanjoor. His sons, Riyab and Siyab, sustained injuries in the attack that occurred around 9:30 PM at Valachil.
Preliminary investigations reveal that Suleman, who worked as a marriage broker, had arranged the marriage of the accused, Mustafa (30), his relative, with a woman named Shaheenaz about eight months ago. However, due to marital discord, Shaheenaz had returned to her parental home two months prior to the incident, which reportedly led to tension between Mustafa and Suleman.

On the night of the incident, Mustafa allegedly made an abusive phone call to Suleman. In response, Suleman, accompanied by his sons Riyab and Siyab, went to Mustafa’s residence in Valachil to resolve the matter. While the sons waited by the roadside, Suleman went alone to speak with Mustafa. He returned shortly after, indicating that the conversation was unproductive and suggested they leave.
At that moment, Mustafa reportedly came running from his house, shouting threats in the Byari language, and suddenly stabbed Suleman on the right side of the neck with a knife. Suleman collapsed on the spot. Mustafa then turned on the sons, stabbing Siyab on the left side of his chest and Riyab on his right forearm.
With the assistance of locals, the injured were rushed to Janapriya Hospital at around 11 pm. Suleman was declared brought dead, while his sons were admitted for treatment.
Based on the complaint, crime no. 41/2025 has been registered at Mangaluru rural police station under sections 103(1), 109(1), 118(1), 351(2), 351(3), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The accused, Mustafa, has been arrested and further investigation is underway.
