New Delhi, May 23: Amid a mild rise in Covid-19 infections across parts of India and growing global concerns, the Delhi government on Friday issued a health advisory directing all hospitals to ensure complete preparedness, including the availability of beds, oxygen, essential medicines, and vaccines.

Health Minister Pankaj Singh confirmed that 23 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Delhi. Authorities are currently verifying whether these individuals are city residents or have recent travel history.

The advisory comes as neighbouring countries like China, Thailand, and Singapore are witnessing a spike in infections. Delhi’s health department has directed all positive samples to be sent for genome sequencing to Lok Nayak Hospital for monitoring any emerging variants.

“The hospitals must ensure readiness in terms of beds, oxygen, antibiotics, vaccines, and functional critical care equipment like ventilators, BiPAP machines, and PSA plants,” the advisory stated.

Daily updates of all key health parameters have been made mandatory through the Delhi State Health Data Management Portal, officials added.

Meanwhile, mild Covid infections have been reported across several Indian states. As per data released by the Union Health Ministry, 257 cases were reported nationwide on Wednesday.

Maharashtra reported 56 cases, Tamil Nadu 66, while other states and union territories including Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Haryana, Karnataka, West Bengal, and Puducherry also registered sporadic cases.

Kerala Health Minister Veena George informed that the state logged 273 cases in May, with Kottayam (82), Thiruvananthapuram (73), and Ernakulam (49) being the most affected districts.

Haryana reported four fresh cases, all mild in nature and under home isolation with medical supervision, said Health Minister Arti Singh Rao, who reassured the public that there is no cause for panic.

On May 19, a high-level review meeting was convened by the Director General of Health Services with experts from agencies like ICMR, NCDC, and central government hospitals.

According to PTI, the panel concluded that India’s current Covid situation is under control, with 257 active cases as of May 19, none requiring hospitalisation.

While the situation remains stable, authorities are urging the public to remain cautious and follow preventive measures as a precaution.
