Patna, May 25: In a bizarre turn of events that left an entire village stunned, a wedding celebration in Bihar’s Gopalganj district took a dramatic and unexpected turn when the groom was kidnapped by members of a dance troupe hired to perform at the event.

The shocking incident took place late Friday night at Dighwa Dubouli village under the jurisdiction of the Town police station. The occasion was the wedding of Sonu Kumar Sharma, which had been proceeding peacefully until chaos erupted post-midnight during a traditional "Launda Nach" performance.

Sources informed that after the completion of the main wedding rituals, the baraatis and villagers were enjoying the dance performance. However, a dispute broke out when the dancers decided to end the show, leading to an argument with some guests who insisted the entertainment continue. Tempers soon flared and what began as a minor quarrel spiralled into a full-blown scuffle.

In the melee, a dancer identified as Muskan Kinnar sustained injuries and was taken to hospital. The matter escalated further when, according to police, Muskan allegedly called for reinforcements. Around 2 am, a group arrived in a vehicle, stormed the wedding venue, assaulted members of the bride’s family, and forcibly abducted the groom directly from the mandap.

The family, caught in a state of disbelief and panic, alerted the police immediately. A frantic search operation was launched and after nearly nine hours, the groom was traced and rescued from neighbouring Siwan district at around 11 am on Saturday.

Confirming the incident, Gopalganj Superintendent of Police Awdhesh Dixit told Daijiworld, “There was a dispute over payment between the wedding organisers and the dance party which seems to have triggered the conflict. We acted swiftly upon receiving the complaint and successfully rescued the groom.”

The wedding, held at the residence of Surendra Sharma, had reportedly progressed smoothly until the incident occurred, turning a joyous occasion into one marred by violence and trauma. “This should have been the most memorable day for our families. Instead, we witnessed a nightmare no one could have imagined,” said a distraught family member.

The local police have launched a deeper investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, villagers remain in shock over the dramatic events that unfolded, comparing the surreal incident to scenes from a Bollywood thriller.
