Mangaluru, May 28: In a tragic incident on Wednesday morning, a photographer lost his life after the car he was driving overturned and fell into a roadside stormwater drain near Kodikal Cross on the Mangaluru–Udupi National Highway.
The deceased has been identified as Surya Narayan (48), a professional photographer. He was on his way to cover a programme at the Nandikeshwara Temple in Panambur when the accident occurred. Reportedly, he lost control of the car, which veered off the road and crashed into a nearby stormwater drain.


Locals rushed to the spot and attempted to rescue him. Though he was immediately taken to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries while in transit.
Surya Narayan had been working at Kediyoor Varn Lab in Udupi for several years and was well-known among the local photography community. Recently, he had opened his own photography studio near Uppala in Kasargod district. Fondly known as ‘Var Surya’ in Udupi, he was known for his friendly nature and strong rapport with people.
