Mobile usage soars among youth, shows nationwide survey

New Delhi, May 29: A nationwide survey by the Ministry of Statistics reveals that nearly 97% of Indians aged 15–29 use mobile phones, with smartphone ownership also high — 95.5% in rural areas and 97.6% in urban regions.

The report, ‘Results of Comprehensive Modular Survey: Telecom, 2025’, also found that 99.5% of young users with online banking skills can transact via UPI.

Overall, 85.5% of Indian households have at least one smartphone, and 86.3% have internet access. Around 85.1% of youth reported sending messages with attachments via mobile or computer in the past three months.

The survey covered over 34,000 households and more than 1.4 lakh individuals nationwide.
