New Delhi, May 30: What started as a friendship on Instagram turned into years of blackmail, threats, and emotional trauma for a woman in Delhi. Himanshu Arora (37), a Delhi University graduate and father of a 12-year-old girl, has been arrested by Delhi Police's Cyber Cell for allegedly blackmailing his ex-girlfriend using her private photos and videos.
The victim first met Arora in 2021 on Instagram. Over time, the online acquaintance developed into a romantic relationship. Exploiting the emotional bond, Arora allegedly manipulated the woman into sharing her private content, which he later used to extort money.

The woman began receiving threats from multiple fake Instagram and email accounts. The blackmailer demanded Rs 1 lakh and threatened to leak her intimate photos and videos, attack her family, and even throw acid on her if she didn’t comply.
After enduring harassment for nearly three years, the woman finally approached the police on Wednesday. A special team traced nine fake accounts used in the blackmail and linked them to a phone number registered in Arora’s mother’s name. Arora was arrested the next day.
The police recovered two phones, a laptop, and explicit content of the victim from Arora’s possession. Initially, he tried to deflect blame onto a technician, claiming his laptop had been mishandled. However, he later confessed to the crime.
Arora's family runs a sanitary goods business in East Delhi. He now faces serious cybercrime charges.
The Delhi Police has urged the public to exercise caution on social media and refrain from sharing personal content online. Parents have also been advised to monitor their children's internet use closely.
