Ghola residents benefit from affordable medicines under PMBJP

Parganas, May 31: Residents of Ghola in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district are reaping the rewards of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), the central government’s flagship scheme ensuring affordable and quality medicines for all.

Jan Aushadhi Kendras in the district offer essential medicines at discounts between 50 to 90 percent, becoming a vital resource for economically weaker sections. Sanjeev Biswas, operator of a local Kendra, told IANS that all types of medicines, including Chyawanprash, are available and no one is turned away for lack of stock.

Launched in 2008 by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, PMBJP promotes cost-effective generic medicines, equivalent in quality to costly branded ones. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, thousands of Kendras now operate nationwide, serving millions.

To raise awareness, March 7 is observed as ‘Jan Aushadhi Diwas’ with campaigns encouraging the use of affordable medicines, reinforcing the government’s vision of accessible healthcare.
