New Delhi, Jun 3: In a significant ruling, a Delhi court has dismissed the bail plea of a man accused of murdering his wife and attempting to sexually assault their minor daughter. Additional Sessions Judge Shivani Chauhan highlighted the substantial circumstantial evidence indicating that the accused killed his wife after she intervened to protect their daughter from his alleged sexual exploitation.
The court's decision came after the accused claimed he was framed, asserting that his daughter did not witness the murder. However, police reports detail a harrowing incident that unfolded on the night of November 7-8, 2023, when the accused allegedly tried to assault his daughter. The child's mother intervened, leading to a violent altercation between the couple. The following morning, during a heated argument, the accused reportedly strangled his wife.

Public prosecutor Arun K V opposed the bail, emphasizing the heinous nature of the crime, where a mother was killed while defending her child. Despite the absence of a direct eyewitness, the prosecutor pointed to substantial circumstantial evidence and independent witnesses linking the accused to the crime.
The court noted the victim's testimony, stating that the nine-year-old girl was unable to fully comprehend the gravity of the situation but clearly understood her mother's attempts to protect her. The judge underscored the seriousness of the offense and the potential risk to the daughter if the accused were granted bail, ultimately concluding that no grounds for bail were established. The bail application was dismissed.
