Bhiwandi, Jun 7: In a shocking incident, a 40-year-old labourer allegedly murdered his wife following a domestic dispute and fled with their eight-year-old son in Bhiwandi on May 4.
The accused has been identified as Shravan Kumar Suresh Sahani, while the deceased was his 33-year-old wife, Manju Shravan Kumar Sahani. The couple, originally from Bihar, had been living in a rented house in Tadali village, Bhiwandi, for just twenty days.
The incident came to light when the chawl owner, Sahebrao Chaudhary, was alerted by his manager that the door to the Sahani residence remained locked from the outside since morning. On unlocking it, Chaudhary found Manju unconscious on the bed and informed the police.
She was rushed to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Preliminary investigations suggest she may have been strangled.
“We have formed two teams to trace the accused and are scanning CCTV footage from the area. A forensic team has collected evidence from the crime scene,” said Inspector Pramod Kumbhar of Narpoli Police Station.
Police have launched a manhunt for Shravan Kumar, who remains at large with the couple's minor son. Manju's family in Bihar has been informed and is expected to arrive in Bhiwandi for the final rites. Further investigation is underway.
