Kadaba, June 8: In a horrifying incident near Koriyar in Kodimbal, a man allegedly attempted to murder his own brother by dousing him with petrol and setting him on fire on the railway track. The shocking act of fraternal violence occurred on the evening of June 8 and has left the local community in disbelief.
The victim, identified as Hanumappa, sustained severe burn injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mangaluru. He was initially rushed to the Kadaba Community Hospital for first aid before being shifted to a higher facility due to the seriousness of his condition.

Sources revealed that the accused, Ningappa, and the victim are siblings hailing from Gadag district and were working in Puttur. On the afternoon of the incident, the two brothers, along with their sister, reportedly boarded a passenger train on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru route and disembarked at Bajakare railway station.
Soon after the train left, Ningappa allegedly took Hanumappa around 500 meters away from the station, poured petrol on him, and set him on fire. In a desperate attempt to save himself, the victim jumped into a nearby drain to extinguish the flames.
Alerted by his agonising screams, local residents rushed to the spot and found Hanumappa in a critical state. They immediately alerted authorities and helped rush him to medical care.
Kadaba police swiftly arrived at the scene and detained the accused, Ningappa. As the incident occurred on the railway track, officials stated that the case may be transferred to the Railway police for further investigation.
The motive behind this brutal attack is yet to be confirmed, and police have begun a detailed probe into the incident.
