Media Release

Mangaluru, Jun 9: Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte, in association with the Mangalore Diocesan Service Communion, marked the solemn feast of Pentecost with a day-long spiritual retreat at the Shrine on Sunday, June 8. The event drew large numbers of faithful, united in prayer, worship, and deep spiritual reflection.

The retreat featured a series of enriching sessions, including the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, praise and worship, powerful spiritual talks, deliverance prayers, and Eucharistic adoration. The highlight of the day was the retreat animation led by Fr Augustine Vallooran, Director of the Divine Retreat Centre, Potta. His compelling preaching on the gifts of the Holy Spirit inspired the congregation to embrace the transformation witnessed in the Apostles after the descent of the Holy Spirit.

“Let us be the channels of change in our families, parishes, and society,” Fr Vallooran exhorted, emphasizing how the Spirit emboldens believers to proclaim their faith courageously and face life’s challenges with conviction. Fr Franklin D’Souza of the diocese of Shimoga translated the talks into Konkani, ensuring wider participation and understanding.

The praise and worship sessions were led by Glen and Trese from Potta, creating an atmosphere of deep spiritual engagement and joy.

The festive Holy Eucharist was concelebrated by Fr Clifford Fernandes, spiritual director of the Diocesan Charismatic Renewal, along with Fr Stifan Perera, director of the Infant Jesus Shrine, and Fr John Pinto, Bursar of St Joseph’s Monastery.

Pentecost, celebrated fifty days after Easter, commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Apostles. It marks the culmination of the Easter season and is considered the birthday of the Church.

The day's celebrations were a powerful witness to the enduring faith of the Catholic community. With hearts renewed and spirits uplifted, the faithful left the Shrine reaffirmed in their commitment to the Gospel and the mission of the Church.
