Donations should be made with love: Philanthropist Joseph Menezes at Udupi Catholic Sabha event

Udupi, Jun 9: “When we give donations, it should be out of love and not for publicity,” said philanthropist and businessman Joseph Menezes. He was speaking at the annual general body meeting, fellowship gathering, and the Denis D'Silva Memorial Essay Competition prize distribution function of the Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh, held at Anugraha Pastoral Centre, Kakkunje, on Sunday June 8.

Inaugurating the event, Menezes emphasized that God does not dwell only in temples or idols, but in living beings in patients in hospitals and in those around us who are in need. “Serving them is the true love of God,” he stated. He lauded the Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh for its commendable services to all communities and wished for its continued growth.

During the event, the new telephone directory of the Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh was released by Monsignor Ferdinand Gonsalves, the spiritual director and vicar general of the diocese.

As many as 21 students who emerged winners in the Denis D'Silva Memorial Essay Competition were awarded prizes, presented by Dalia Rodrigues and Diana Britto.

Ronald D’Almeida, president of the Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh, presided over the function and stated that plans are being formulated to provide enhanced facilities in the blood bank and Goretti Hospital to meet the needs of the people.

The event also witnessed the felicitation of Elroy Kiran Crasto, recently appointed president of the State Labour Welfare Federation, Vinod Crasto, newly appointed chairman of Kundapura Urban Development Authority, and Joseph Menezes.

Awards were presented to individuals and units for outstanding service, including contributors to Amcho Sandesh magazine and advertising collection.

Prominent personalities on the dais included former president Santosh Cornelio, central treasurer Garifield Urban, president-elect Louis D’Souza, zonal presidents, and past presidents Valerian Fernandes, Walter Cyril Pinto, Alphonse D’Costa, and Alwyn Quadros.

The vote of thanks was delivered by central secretary Joel Almeida, while Eric Soans compered the event.

Prior to the fellowship gathering, the annual general meeting was held under the leadership of Ronald D’Almeida, where the annual report and financial statements were presented.
