Breaking barriers: Beerappa Doni’s journey from grasslands to UPSC glory

Daijiworld Media Network – Maharashtra

Maharashtra, Jun 10: In an inspiring story of determination and grit, Beerappa Siddappa Doni, hailing from the Kuruba shepherding community, secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 551 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024.

A native of Amage village in Maharashtra, Beerappa’s success marks a remarkable journey from the grazing fields of rural India to the threshold of national service.

A BTech graduate, Beerappa once aspired to join the Indian Army, following in the footsteps of his elder brother. However, when circumstances prevented him from attempting the officer-level exams, he took up a job at India Post. But his ambition did not stop there. Driven by a desire to serve the nation, he resigned and began preparing for the UPSC exams. After three attempts, his hard work paid off.

Beerappa hopes to join the Indian Police Service (IPS), based on his preferences in the UPSC application. His father, Siddappa Doni, may not fully understand the complexities of the examination, but he beams with pride. “People tell me my son will become a senior police officer. That makes me proud,” he shared.

His uncle, Yallappa Gaddi, expressed hope that Beerappa’s success would inspire more youth from their community. “We want him to help the poor. His journey gives us hope.”

Beerappa Doni’s story stands as a powerful testament to the changing landscape of rural India—where aspirations are high, and achievements are breaking new ground.
