Mangalore, Jan 26: In association with the University of Mangalore, Karnataka State Science and Technology Academy will organize its fourth convention with the topic ‘New Avenues of Science and Technology: Opportunities and Challenges’ on Saturday January 28 and Sunday January 29 in Mangalagangothri campus.

Karnataka State Science and Technology Academy is an autonomous body under the ministry of science and technology of Government of Karnataka. The Academy conducts sessions and programmes related to science and technology.

As a part of their agenda, the state science and technology convention is a major event. Just like the literature convention, this event is held every year in every district of the state.
 
The inaugural ceremony will be held on Saturday at 10.00 am on the varsity campus. Chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda will inaugurate the event. Prof U R Rao, the president of the academy, will deliver the keynote address.
 
Dr V S Acharya, Anand Vasanth Asnotikar, and J Krishna Palemar will be the chief guests. M N Vidya Shankar will be the guest of honour. Dr V Prakash will be present on the occasion. Prof TC Shivashankar Murthy will preside over the ceremony.
 
The lifetime contribution award will be conferred on Dr V Prakash, the former director of Central Food Technological Research Centre, for his contribution to the field of science and technology.
 
Eminent resource persons and lecturers will take up the sessions and present papers on various topics. As many as 8,000 representatives from various departments will be present on the occasion. An exhibition will also be a part of this convention.
