New Delhi, Jun 10: In the wake of the shocking rape and murder of a 9-year-old girl in Delhi's Dayalpur area, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, has written to Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, demanding urgent action and accountability.
The incident, which occurred in North East Delhi, has triggered fear among residents, especially parents who are now afraid to let their daughters step outside. “Women are unsafe in the entire Delhi,” Atishi posted on social media platform X, expressing deep concern over the deteriorating law and order.

According to DCP (North East Delhi) Ashish Mishra, a case under relevant sections of murder and rape has been registered at Dayalpur Police Station. However, the delay in arresting the main accused has drawn sharp criticism. “It has been three days, and the accused is still at large. This raises serious questions about the seriousness of the investigation,” Atishi said.
She also sought a meeting with the police commissioner on behalf of a delegation of AAP MLAs and leaders, intending to press for immediate justice.
In a separate letter addressed to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Atishi questioned the BJP’s silence and inaction. “Why has no BJP leader visited the grieving family?” she asked, while urging the government to provide ex-gratia relief to the victim’s family.
“The family has only one demand — that the accused be caught and awarded the harshest punishment,” she said.
Meanwhile, Delhi minister Kapil Mishra stated that CM Rekha Gupta is personally monitoring the case and has spoken to police officials. “Naushad, the accused, is still absconding, but the police are hopeful of nabbing him by today evening or tomorrow,” Mishra told.
Later on Tuesday, Atishi was detained by Delhi Police for participating in an anti-demolition protest at Kalkaji's Bhoomihin Camp.
