Sangli, Jun 12: In a spine-chilling incident echoing the gruesome Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, Maharashtra was once again rocked by horror after a woman allegedly murdered her husband with an axe just three weeks after their wedding. The crime occurred in Sangli district on the night of June 10.

According to police reports, 23-year-old Radhika Lokhande and Anil Lokhande had tied the knot on May 23. However, domestic discord had already begun to strain the relationship. On the fateful night, following a heated argument, Anil went to bed around midnight—unaware that it would be his last.

In a shocking turn, Radhika, allegedly consumed by rage, picked up an axe and struck her husband on the head while he was asleep, killing him on the spot. Minutes later, she reportedly called her cousin and confessed to the heinous act.

Sangli police swiftly arrested Radhika on Wednesday. She has been remanded to two days of police custody, and a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered. Preliminary investigations suggest domestic disputes as the motive behind the murder, but further inquiry is ongoing.

The case has sent shockwaves across the state, coming close on the heels of the high-profile honeymoon murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi by his wife Sonam and her accomplices. Raja had gone missing during a honeymoon trip in Meghalaya in late May, only to be found murdered and dumped in a gorge.

The uncanny timing and nature of both crimes have stirred widespread concern, highlighting troubling trends in domestic violence and trust within newlywed relationships.

As the Sangli investigation unfolds, authorities urge the public to be vigilant and for couples to seek help in times of marital strife rather than resorting to irreversible actions.
