Bengaluru/Mangaluru, Jun 15: With the southwest monsoon gaining momentum across Karnataka, widespread and heavy rainfall has disrupted normal life in several parts of the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for June 15 in the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada, along with Shivamogga, Kodagu, and Chikkamagaluru, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Orange, yellow alerts for other districts
While coastal and Malnad regions are expected to receive intense showers on Sunday, several other districts have also been placed under alert. Belagavi, Gadag, Haveri, Dharwad, Chamarajanagar, Davangere, Hassan, and Mysuru have been issued an orange alert, indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall. A yellow alert has been declared for Bagalkot, Koppal, and Mandya districts.

IMD has indicated that the monsoon rains are likely to persist across the state over the coming days.
Red alert for coastal Karnataka today
For June 15, the IMD has warned of very heavy rainfall—exceeding 204.5 mm—in coastal Karnataka. Thunderstorms, strong winds, and rough sea conditions are expected during this period. An orange alert is in place for June 16 and 17, followed by a yellow alert on June 18. Fishermen and the public have been advised to exercise caution.
