Ajman: Gulf Medical University Launches Education Sponsorship Programme

Media Release

Ajman, Jan 26: One of the major constraints hampering the health profession education worldwide is the prohibitively high cost of higher education.  Though there are a lot of meritorious students across the globe who want to pursue medical education, high fee structure is the major reason why many selected students fail to enroll.

It is at this juncture Gulf Medical University (GMU) has initiated ‘Care & Share’ Program to correct the existing imbalance in healthcare workforce by increasing the number of students to enter the  medical profession.  The program provides an opportunity to sponsor a student at GMU with publicity for the sponsors acknowledging their yeoman service in this endeavor.

The ‘Care & Share’ – Sponsor a Medical Professional Program provides a global platform for corporate bodies, philanthropists, professional organizations, non-governmental organizations and agencies of the State to contribute their efforts in overcoming the paucity of medical professionals all over the world.  It is an opportunity to join a global partnership for healthcare development. The basic idea is to promote  the universal  healthcare efforts through education by sponsoring a student. The act of sponsoring a medical professional is a contribution that in scope and dimension is far beyond an act of charity or an act of kindness in the form of monetary donation or contribution to any other needy cause.  By participating in the ‘Care & Share’ program and sponsoring a student for medical education as a corporate entity/agencies of the State/NGO/professional organization/philanthropist, the cause of healthcare is being addressed from the grass roots.

Through this philanthropic deed GMU gets an opportunity to attract and train meritorious students. Gulf Medical University (GMU) promoted by Thumbay Group and headed by its Founder President Mr. Thumbay Moideen is fully recognized as an institution of excellence imparting higher education, quality healthcare and training through its Bachelors, Masters and Professional Programs in the field of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Physical Therapy. The University has infrastructure and facilities which are on par with some of the established medical schools in the world.

Every year around 3000 applicants across the globe apply for the various programs offered by GMU.   Of the 300 applicants that go through the interview process, only 160 are finally enrolled including 60 in the MBBS, 35 in Dentistry (DMD), 40 in Pharma D and 25 in the BPT undergraduate programs.

Through ‘Care & Share‘ Program GMU would like to give an opportunity for the economically weak but academically bright students to enroll for the heathcare programs.

Professor Mohamed Arifulla, Dean – Office of  Admissions & Registers at Gulf Medical University, Ajman asserted, “It is envisaged that in the next 2 to 3 years 80% of entrants with strong academic track record to all GMU programs will be sponsored through the “Care & Share Program”.

“We hope these trained and skilled health workforce of tomorrow will be able to close the gap between demand and supply and help in the equitable distribution of the benefits of advances in medicine to all members of the society and improve the health and well being of all the nations”, added Prof. Gita Ashok Raj, Provost of Gulf Medical University.
