Sudhanshu Trivedi slams Congress over census row, alleges misinformation

New Delhi, Jun 18: BJP Rajya Sabha MP and national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Congress party over its claims regarding the Census 2027 notification, accusing it of deliberately ignoring facts clearly outlined in the official gazette.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters, Trivedi said the Congress was engaging in ‘wicked politics’ and turning a blind eye to the caste census notification issued by the Union government.

“The Congress couldn’t even recognise the destruction in Pakistan shown by satellite images after Operation Sindoor. That same lack of vision is why they’re blind to the caste census notification,” he remarked.

Trivedi accused the Congress of hypocrisy, stating that the party had historically attempted to block caste-based reservations and was now questioning the Modi government’s commitment to social justice.

He clarified that the Union Cabinet had, after detailed deliberation, decided to include caste enumeration in the upcoming Census, and this was explicitly mentioned in the official press release. “It was clearly stated that a socio-economic assessment, including caste census, would be conducted for the first time in independent India,” he added.

Referring to past actions, Trivedi criticised Congress for not publishing the findings of the Kalelkar Commission and now attempting to “spread lies” about the government’s decision.

He also targeted the Congress-ruled states, pointing out that only the Central government has the authority to conduct a caste census, while states can merely carry out surveys. “Congress is flaunting the Telangana survey, but that very state is struggling with a financial crisis,” he said.

Further, Trivedi accused the Opposition of using the caste census as a political tool to divide communities. He questioned Congress’ move to include minorities under the OBC category in states like Karnataka and Telangana.

“Wherever the Congress is in power, the economy is in ruins. They’re not interested in genuine upliftment but only in political gains,” Trivedi said, adding that many parties in the INDIA bloc were exploiting the Census issue for electoral mileage.
