Mangaluru, Jun 18: Expert PU College, Valachil, in collaboration with Spices N Chefs (a unit of Spade Integrated Services Pvt Ltd), successfully concluded a 10-day Food Safety celebration from June 7-18 commemorating World Food Safety Day.
The valedictory session was graced by Prof Narendra L Nayak, chairman, Expert Group of Institutions, as the chief guest. In his address, he emphasized the importance of food safety for all stakeholders, including growers, processors, and servers.
Under the guidance of Dr Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice chairperson, Expert Group of Institutions, the program engaged Expert PU College students through educational sessions on safe food choices and nutritional requirements. A special session was conducted with raw material suppliers, focusing on food safety requirements and standards.









Dinesh Palliyil, MD, Spices N Chefs, presided over the program, while Dr Ahad, campus medical officer, and Rajesh E T, unit head, were also present.
The program was formally inaugurated by Dr N K Vijayan Karippal, principal of Expert PU College. The comprehensive awareness program featured expert sessions by Santosh Kumar, food safety officer, Southern Railway Division, and Fabio, health inspector, Mangalore Railway Station. Dr Asha, medical officer, PHC Adyar, conducted health awareness sessions. A notable field visit to Akshayapatra Central Kitchen provided participants with hands-on exposure to large-scale food safety operations. The program extended its reach to the community with educational sessions at Sri Rama High School, Farangipet.
Various competitions, including quiz contests, drawing competitions, and video-making contests, engaged both staff and students. Souparnika, quality manager, emceed the program. Nearly 185 employees, including senior officials and staff members of Spices N Chefs, attended the program.
