New Delhi, Jun 21: Vivek Vikram Singh, CEO of Sona Comstar, posted a deeply emotional tribute to his late friend and mentor Sunjay Kapur, the renowned industrialist who passed away on June 12 after suffering a heart attack during a polo match in London. Kapur’s funeral was held in Delhi on June 19.
Taking to social media platform X, Singh wrote, “Yesterday, I had the heartbreak of shouldering my best friend on his final journey — a man who was always prouder of my achievements than I ever was. If everyone had even one such friend, the world would be a kinder, better place. May you rest in peace, Sunjay.”
The heartfelt note was in response to a November 2024 post by Kapur, where he had lauded Singh’s leadership. “So proud of you, Vivek! It was great to be there to share this moment with you. A well-deserved recognition for your leadership at Sona Comstar. Congrats, once again, and more power to you!” Kapur had posted then.
Kapur, Chairman of Sona Comstar Ltd., was a towering figure in the Indian automotive industry. He held key roles such as Chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Northern Region, Co-Chairman of CII’s Manufacturing Council, and served as the President of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA). He was also the first Indian to be appointed Global Chairman of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization.
Educated across India, the UK, and the US, Sunjay Kapur was known not just for his business acumen but also for his commitment to lifelong learning, fitness, and the sport of polo — the very game he was playing when he tragically collapsed.
His sudden demise has left the industry, friends, and admirers in deep sorrow. Singh’s tribute reflects the profound bond they shared — one built on friendship, admiration, and unwavering support.
