Bhadohi, Jun 22: A 22-year-old nurse was brutally molested and assaulted by an ambulance driver inside a private hospital in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, police said on Saturday. The accused, identified as Rohit alias Mohit, is currently absconding.

The incident took place on June 5, when the nurse was on a phone call. “Rohit approached her and began molesting her. When she protested, he grabbed her by the hair, beat her and threw her to the ground,” said Kotwali Station House Officer Sachidanand Pandey.

The accused further harassed the nurse by forcibly touching her inappropriately and indulging in obscene acts, the officer added.

The nurse’s screams alerted hospital staff and doctors, who rushed to her aid. The attacker was scolded and removed from the premises, police said.

Rohit, who regularly brings patients to the hospital as an ambulance driver, has been booked under Sections 76 (assault with intent to disrobe), 352 (assault to provoke breach of peace), and 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest him.

According to police sources, both the nurse and the accused belong to the Dalit community.
