Army sepoy, aide held in Punjab for spying for Pakistan’s ISI

Amritsar, Jun 23: In a major crackdown on espionage activities, Amritsar Rural Police on Sunday arrested two individuals, including a serving Army sepoy, for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Maninder Singh confirmed the arrest of Gurpreet Singh alias Gopy Foji, Army personnel posted in Jammu, and his associate Sahil Masih alias Shali from Dhariwal village.

"Gurpreet had been in direct contact with ISI handlers and was involved in suspicious monetary transactions with Sahil. He is suspected of sharing confidential information using pen drives," SSP Singh told ANI.

Following the arrests, police registered a case under Section 359 of the Official Secrets Act and Section 35 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Two mobile phones reportedly used to communicate with ISI operatives have also been seized.

The Punjab Director General of Police took to X to share that a key ISI handler, identified as Rana Javed, is under the scanner. Both Army and central intelligence agencies have been alerted, and a joint investigation is underway.
