Imphal, Jun 24: In a major breakthrough, Manipur Police on Sunday arrested a key commander of the Meitei extremist outfit Arambai Tenggol for his alleged involvement in the brutal murder of a differently-abled man in Imphal West district. The arrest was confirmed by police authorities on Monday.

The prime accused, identified as Longjam Khaba Singh Boi (35), is said to have played a central role in the abduction and killing of M Chesam Abdul Kadir, a resident of Paobitek Mayai Leikai. Kadir had gone missing on June 11, and his body was later discovered buried in Samurou Naorem area. The gruesome incident triggered widespread protests by minority communities across the Imphal valley.

As per official sources, a total of 10 individuals, including Longjam, six other members of the Arambai Tenggol outfit, and three civilians, have been arrested in connection with the crime. The body of Kadir was exhumed on June 17, intensifying public anger and leading to fresh calls for justice.

The case has added to the rising tensions in the region, already reeling under ethnic and communal unrest. The state police have assured that investigations are being carried out on a priority basis, and more arrests are likely as the probe progresses.
