Karkala, June 24: A horrific road accident took place near Doopadakatte in Attur, Karkala, on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 24, when a BMW car collided head-on with a private bus, resulting in severe damage to the car and causing temporary traffic disruption.

According to sources, the private bus was travelling towards Karkala from Mangaluru, while the BMW was approaching from the opposite direction. The collision occurred near Doopadakatte Junction on the Karkala–Padubidri highway. The impact was so intense that the BMW was left completely mangled.

The entire incident was captured on the dashcam of a nearby vehicle and the footage has since gone viral on social media platforms.

Karkala police promptly arrived at the scene, managed the situation, and cleared the road for regular traffic movement. A case has been registered, and further investigation is currently underway.

Local residents and commuters have raised concerns as Doopadakatte Junction has emerged as a frequent accident zone, especially during the monsoon. Vehicles descending at high speeds from the Attur Church side often pose a threat to those merging onto the highway, leading to recurring accidents.

Just a few days prior, a similar incident occurred in the same area when a private bus collided with an auto-rickshaw, tragically resulting in the death of one person on the spot.

i can easily understand how this might have happened looking at the bus and car. car exiting from attur to doopadakatte..driver is looking at the left side for oncoming vehicle from karkala while completely failing or forgetting to also check the right side vehicle coming from nitte towards karkala..Bus driver might have thought that the car driver is sane enough to note down the bus and stop for the bus to pass..

One thing for sure, A Bus, A Car , A Bike/Scooter , Lorry , or any moving vehicle will not loose control, or ram into something, or some one walking, ram into a tree, etc, its the driver, who is handling or driving,, particular vehicle, , so blame should be on driver not the vehicle, no proper training, decipline, just start and go!!!!!!!!!!!!, and loose control.

This area becomes crowded during Attur Parish Feast, but rarely any accident occurs. The reason being drivers are more cautious and drive slow during those 3 or 4 days.

This looks like crash test between German Engineered BMW v/s Indian Ashok Leyland. However this spot is a dangerous one with the turn and slope one side and Attur side road joining to the main highway. People with High end Cars think that the entire roads are only meant for them. It's definitely a miracle that no one got injured in the accident.

Any sane person will slow down while coming from Karkala, reaching attur junction and doopadakatte. There are curves on the road and also a slope.

Vehicles descending at high speed from Karkala side need to control at this junction.
