New Delhi, Jun 25: In a shocking case of suspected betrayal and murder, a 26-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing a 19-year-old woman by pushing her off the fifth-floor rooftop of her residence in northeast Delhi’s Ashok Nagar.
The accused, identified as Taufeeq, a resident of Rampur in Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended late Tuesday night after a brief period of hiding. The incident occurred on Monday morning and was reported to the Jyoti Nagar Police Station around 8:30 am.

Police said the victim, Neha, was found in a critical state after allegedly being pushed from the rooftop of her house. She was rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries later in the day.
To avoid recognition, Taufeeq reportedly entered the building wearing a burqa, aiming to conceal his identity from Neha’s family and neighbours. During questioning, he confessed to using the disguise to access the girl’s residence without suspicion.
CCTV footage has played a crucial role in the investigation, capturing a figure in a burqa entering and later exiting the building under suspicious circumstances. Police are analysing visuals from multiple cameras in the area to reconstruct the sequence of events.
Police sources revealed that Taufeeq and Neha had been in a relationship for several months, and a quarrel broke out when Neha learned he was set to marry another woman through an arranged match. This argument allegedly turned fatal on the rooftop.
However, Neha’s family has denied any romantic involvement. Her father claimed that Neha used to tie a rakhi to Taufeeq and treated him like a brother. He added that the accused had been visiting their house regularly for the past three years.
A detailed investigation is underway, and police are verifying all angles of the case.
