Iran's top IRGC commander Shadmani dies in Israeli strike

Tehran, Jun 25: Major General Ali Shadmani, head of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards’ Khatam al-Anbia Command Centre, has died from injuries sustained during Israeli airstrikes last week, Iranian media reported. The IRGC has vowed “harsh revenge” for his killing.

Shadmani’s death marks a critical escalation, coming shortly after the US-brokered ceasefire ended the 12-day Israel-Iran war. US President Donald Trump confirmed the truce, stating that Israel would halt strikes and Iran would not revive its nuclear programme.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) claimed responsibility for the June 17 airstrike on a command centre in central Tehran, identifying Shadmani as Iran’s wartime chief of staff and closest military figure to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Shadmani had taken over the Guards' command centre after the killing of his predecessor, Gholam Ali Rashid, in Israel’s opening strike. According to IDF, Shadmani controlled both the IRGC and the Iranian army, overseeing all combat operations under Operation “Rising Lion.”

The Khatam al-Anbia command centre under Shadmani was reportedly central to Iran’s wartime planning and strategic operations. Appointed just days before his death, he had been tasked by Khamenei with boosting Iran’s defense preparedness.
