Udupi: Dr V S Acharya Inaugurates Post Graduation Centre

Udupi, Jan 28: District-in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya inaugurated the newly-constructed post graduation centre built at a cost of Rs 2 crore at Government First Grade College, Tenkanidiyoor, on Friday January 27.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Acharya said that the state administration is trying to provide better facilities to higher education aspirants.

“There are 32 universities in the state with 2,350 colleges.  A 33rd university will be set up under the jurisdiction of Bangalore University, mainly to lessen the strain on existing facilities. In the current situation, a university serves the colleges that are located in two districts.  A proposal was approved in the assembly a few days ago to extend building blocks for schools and colleges in the state at a cost of Rs 557 crore.  The state is the topper in the country with an average of 28 students per teacher,” he added.

“Measures will be taken to appoint teachers and lecturers wherever a shortage is reported in schools and colleges during the coming academic year.  The state education department aims to improve the education standard from 17 percent to 20 percent by 2020.  About 1.38 crore students are studying in the state. 

Recently, the foundation stone has been laid to construct a post graduation Centre of Mangalore University in Kodagu.  When a post graduation Centre in Udupi district will be set up, the newly-opened Centre of Tenkanidiyoor will serve as the leader,” added Dr Acharya. MLA Raghupati Bhat presided over the programme.

ZP president Katpady Shankar Poojary, TP president Devdas Hebbar, college education joint director Dr Seema, and Shimoga regional director Nataraj Aras were present on the dais.
Satyayan Shetty, the building contractor of the post graduation centre of Tenkanidiyoor was felicitated on the occasion.
  
Tenkanidiyoor Government First Grade College principal Professor Yoganand welcomed the gathering.  Dr Duggappa Kajekar proposed the vote of thanks.  Dr Gananat Yekkar compered the programme.

    Pleased to learn that the Honourable Minister for Higher Education, Government of Karnataka has announced that Post Graduate Centre of Mangalore University will be coming up in Udupi District shortly. It is long overdue and hope efforts will be made in the coming budget proposal to allocate funds and will function from the academic year, 2012-2013 and gradually will come up to the full-fledged Centre within the next 2-3 years. Further, I suggest taht the Centre may be established either in Barkur-Sasthan area or Koteswar-Basrur area to the greater benefit of economically poor rural areas students of the regeion. Anyway grateful thanks to the Honarable Minister. Hope he will also take steps to introduce PG programs and Science streams in some of Government First grade Colleges of Kundapura taluk, at Shankaranarayana and Baindur.
