Puttur, June 27: A serious allegation of rape has been levelled against Krishna Rao, son of BJP leader Jagannivas Rao from Puttur, for allegedly impregnating a young woman under the guise of love and later refusing to marry her.
According to the complaint filed by the victim at the Puttur Women’s Police Station, Krishna Rao had been in a relationship with the complainant, who was his classmate during high school. The two reportedly continued their relationship even after school. The young woman, currently pursuing a BSc degree at a private college in Mangaluru, stated that Krishna called her to his house on October 11, 2024, when no one was home, and established physical intimacy with a promise of marriage.

Later, in January 2025, he allegedly forced himself on her again. The victim soon realised she was pregnant. When informed, Krishna reportedly declined to marry her.
The young woman, a resident of Puttur, stated that she and Krishna had been in a relationship for several years. She alleged that Krishna took advantage of her trust and physically assaulted her on multiple occasions at his house. After learning about the pregnancy, the woman informed her parents, who then approached Krishna’s family. Though the family initially agreed to the marriage, Krishna eventually refused.
Following the complaint lodged on the night of June 24, Puttur police registered a case against Krishna Rao under Sections 64(1) and 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He is currently absconding, and police have launched a search operation to trace him.
According to the FIR, Krishna had invited the woman to his house on October 11 under the pretext of marrying her and tried to force himself on her. When she resisted, he assured her of marriage and told her to keep the matter a secret. In January, he allegedly repeated the act. The woman is now nine months pregnant and has sought legal action against the accused for betrayal and exploitation.
