New Delhi, Jun 29: India has strongly rejected Pakistan’s claim that New Delhi was behind the deadly suicide bombing in North Waziristan that killed 13 Pakistani soldiers on June 28.

Responding to the accusation, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a sharp rebuttal on Sunday. "We have seen an official statement by the Pakistan Army seeking to blame India for the attack on Waziristan on 28 June. We reject this statement with the contempt it deserves," MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated on X.

The attack, which occurred in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, involved a suicide bomber ramming an explosive-laden vehicle into a military convoy. According to local officials, the blast claimed the lives of 13 soldiers and injured 10 army personnel along with 19 civilians.

Pakistan’s military media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), identified the outfit behind the attack as Fitna-al-Khawarij, reported The Dawn. The bombing comes just days after a security operation in South Waziristan led to the deaths of two Pakistani soldiers and 11 militants.

No group has claimed responsibility for Saturday’s attack so far. However, Pakistani authorities have increasingly pointed fingers at Afghanistan-based elements, accusing Kabul of harbouring militants—a claim the Taliban government has denied.

As per AFP, Pakistan has seen a significant spike in militant violence, especially in its western border regions, since the Taliban took control in Afghanistan in 2021. So far this year, over 290 people, mostly security forces, have lost their lives in such attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
