Udupi, July 2: A 65-year-old woman has tragically lost her life after being struck by a speeding bus in Manipal, in a horrific incident that occurred near MIT College.

The victim, identified as Vinoda, was reportedly crossing the road having just dropped off her grandchildren at their home when the accident took place.

The bus, travelling from Udupi towards the pilgrimage town of Dharmasthala, is understood to have been moving at speed when it collided with the pensioner.

Eyewitnesses described a scene of utter devastation, with initial reports indicating the impact was so severe that the deceased's body was "torn into pieces."

Police have launched an investigation into the fatal collision.
