Mangaluru, Jul 5: Andrea Pinto, a dedicated researcher in the field of immunology and structural biology, has been awarded the title of Doctor of Philosophy in Structural Biology and Nanobiology by Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA), France.
Her doctoral research was conducted at the esteemed Institut de Biologie Structurale (IBS) in Grenoble under the supervision of Dr Jean-Baptiste Reiser and Dr Wai Li Ling. Her thesis, titled ‘Molecular and Structural Investigations of the Complement C1 Complex Interactions with IgMs’, not only advances the fundamental understanding of immune system mechanisms but also holds significant potential for the development of therapeutic interventions targeting autoimmune diseases and immunodeficiencies.

Throughout the course of her PhD, Andrea actively participated in several international scientific conferences held in Spain, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. Her scientific communication skills were widely recognized, earning her the Best Oral Presenter award as well as multiple travel grants.
Andrea Pinto is the daughter of Anil Pinto, a businessman, and Judith Crasta, a public prosecutor. They are parishioners of Guardian Angel Church, Angelore, Mangaluru. Andrea completed her schooling at St Agnes, followed by her Bachelor's degree at St Aloysius College, Mangaluru. She is an alumna of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), where she pursued her Master 1 before securing a scholarship to pursue her Master 2 at Université Grenoble Alpes in France.
As Andrea celebrates this remarkable academic milestone, she looks forward to continuing her research at the intersection of scientific discovery and clinical impact. Her achievements have brought immense pride to her family, mentors, and the academic communities she has been associated with in both India and France.
Her sister, Ancita, also recently secured the 10th rank in the Karnataka State Law Examination.
