Patna, Jul 5: Gopal Khemka, a prominent businessman and BJP leader from Bihar, was shot dead outside his residence near Patna’s Panache Hotel on Friday night. The incident, captured on CCTV, shows the assailant waiting outside in a blue shirt and black helmet before executing the attack.
As Khemka arrived and waited for the gate to open, the shooter ran up to his car, fired a bullet, and fled the scene on a motorcycle. Khemka was found slumped over the steering wheel and declared dead on the spot.
Police have recovered a bullet and a shell casing from the crime scene and have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the murder. The motive remains unknown.
City SP Central Diksha confirmed the area has been cordoned off and said investigation is underway. This killing comes three years after Khemka’s son, Gunjan Khemka, was also murdered.
Independent MP Pappu Yadav, who visited the scene, condemned the Nitish Kumar government, saying “no one is safe in Bihar” and called the state a “sanctuary for criminals.”
