Doha, Jul 8: The first round of indirect ceasefire negotiations between Hamas and Israel in Qatar ended without progress, according to two Palestinian sources familiar with the talks. The sources claimed that the Israeli delegation lacked the mandate needed to finalise any agreement with Hamas.
The talks resumed on Sunday in Doha, ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s upcoming visit to Washington his third meeting at the White House since US President Donald Trump returned to office nearly six months ago.

"After the first session of indirect negotiations in Doha, the Israeli delegation is not sufficiently authorized and is not authorized to reach an agreement with Hamas, as it has no real powers," the sources told Reuters.
Before departing for the US, Netanyahu had stated that Israeli negotiators were carrying “clear instructions” to work toward a ceasefire under conditions acceptable to Israel. However, the outcome of the opening session suggests deep divisions and limited flexibility in the Israeli mandate.
Diplomatic efforts are expected to continue, with international mediators hoping to break the deadlock and prevent further escalation in the region.
