Drunk Audi driver runs over five sleeping on footpath in Delhi; 8-year-old among injured

New Delhi, Jul 13: In a shocking case of reckless driving, five people, including two couples and an eight-year-old girl, were injured after being run over by a drunk driver of an Audi car while they were sleeping on a footpath near Shiva Camp in Vasant Vihar, southwest Delhi.

The incident occurred around 1:45 am on July 9, police said. The driver, identified as Utsav Shekhar (40), a resident of Dwarka, was apprehended on the spot, and medical reports confirmed he was under the influence of alcohol at the time.

The victims, all from Rajasthan, have been identified as Ladhi (40), her daughter Bimla (8), husband Sabami alias Chirma (45), and another couple Ram Chander (45) and Narayani (35). They were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

According to preliminary investigation and eyewitness accounts, the white Audi mounted the footpath and ran over the sleeping victims. Legal proceedings have been initiated against Shekhar, and police are continuing their investigation to determine the full sequence of events and any further negligence involved.
