Washington, Jul 13: US President Donald Trump has come out in strong support of attorney general Pam Bondi following criticism from conservative circles over the Justice Department's latest findings in the controversial Jeffrey Epstein case.
In a lengthy post on Truth Social, Trump urged his supporters to stand behind Bondi and dismissed the renewed interest in Epstein’s death and alleged clientele. “Nobody cares about Epstein,” Trump wrote, adding that the MAGA movement must stay united and not waste energy on past controversies.
Bondi, along with FBI Director Kash Patel, has faced sharp criticism from prominent conservative influencers, including Laura Loomer and Elon Musk, after a joint memo released by the FBI and DOJ on Monday concluded there was no evidence of a “client list” or foul play in Epstein’s 2019 jail death.
The 300-gigabyte review of data, the memo stated, yielded no evidence of blackmail or high-profile client involvement. It reaffirmed that Epstein died by suicide while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
The backlash stems in part from Bondi’s previous public comments where she promised major revelations, including flight logs and high-profile names. When asked by Fox News in February if she would release Epstein’s client list, she had said, “It’s sitting on my desk right now to review.”
However, she appeared to walk back that statement this week, clarifying that she was referring broadly to the Epstein file and other historical files, including those related to the assassinations of John F Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.
The controversy has reportedly sparked tensions within the FBI, with deputy director Dan Bongino said to be at odds with Bondi over the agency’s handling of the Epstein probe. According to US media, Bongino is now considering resigning.
Both Bongino and Patel had previously been vocal about the existence of a so-called Epstein “client list,” often suggesting that key information was being withheld from the public.
While the DOJ memo appears to put many of the conspiracy theories to rest, skepticism continues to swirl online — now aimed not just at the Justice Department, but at its top officials as well.
