Purnea, Jul 14: A 12-year-old boy in Bihar’s Purnea district witnessed a horrifying scene on Saturday night when he woke up to a splash of blood and saw his mother brutally attacking his father with a sharp weapon.

The boy, Shailendra, was asleep when he was jolted awake around 10:30 pm. In his statement, he said he saw his mother, Usha Devi (35), repeatedly striking his father, Balo Das (45), on the neck with a dabiya—a sharp blade resembling a garden knife. When Shailendra tried to cry for help, his mother threatened him with death if he spoke a word.

The incident unfolded in Purnea district, where Usha Devi lived with her husband and three children. According to police, the murder was carried out under the influence of her alleged lover.

Balo Das, a daily wage labourer, had returned home from Punjab after learning that his wife had sold their house's land without informing him. The couple reportedly fought frequently after his return.

Police say Usha Devi developed an affair with a man from the village while her husband was away earning for the family. Under her lover’s influence, she allegedly sold their land and had plans to elope. The sudden return of Balo Das derailed those plans, leading to the murder.

The couple's son waited until morning to alert his aunt. The villagers gathered at the house, and police were informed.

“Mother killed father under someone’s influence. My father never beat her,” Shailendra told police.

Usha Devi has confessed to the murder and has been taken into custody. Further investigation is underway.
