Mangaluru, Jul 15: Nine freshly minted Montessorians received their diplomas on Sunday as the Indian Montessori Training Courses (IMTC) Mangaluru, an affiliate of the Indian Montessori Centre, hosted its fifth graduation ceremony at the art forward TLC Art Café.
Founded in 2017, IMTC Mangaluru partners with Early Learning Centre (ELC) to deliver a rigorous ten month programme grounded in Dr Maria Montessori’s pedagogy. This year’s course ran from September 9, 2024 to July 12, and combined 450 hours of theory with 150 hours of hands on practice. Trainees crafted language materials, nomenclature cards, and classroom napkins, and completed two week long observation placements, one in Bengaluru and one locally before sitting written exams and an intensive practical assessment.

Addressing the graduates, Patnam underscored the importance of “truly understanding the child’s psyche,” while Kottaraju praised Mangaluru’s verdant setting and ELC’s support in “safeguarding Dr Montessori’s legacy.” Principal Purnima lauded the class’ “unwavering passion and discipline.”
Centre director Jayashree Guruprasad opened the ceremony by lighting the traditional lamp and acknowledging the collective effort behind the programme’s success. Graduates later shared emotional reflections, crediting family, friends, and mentors for their journey.
Diplomas and letters of completion were formally conferred, marking each trainee’s transition into a profession that, in IMTC’s words, “prepares the adult—spiritually, technically, and intellectually—to serve the child.” The celebration closed over artisan pizzas courtesy of the host café.
With more than 20 directors nationwide and centres across India, the Indian Montessori Centre continues to expand its mission of elevating Montessori education and its newest educators now stand ready to carry that mission forward.
