Kheda, Jul 16: What began as an accidental death case took a dark turn after a grieving mother in Gujarat finally broke her silence, revealing her husband had deliberately killed their seven-year-old daughter by pushing her into the Narmada canal.
The incident occurred on June 10 when Vijay Solanki and his wife Anjana, along with their elder daughter Bhoomika, were returning home after visiting a temple. During the journey, Anjana expressed her wish to visit her parents, which reportedly enraged Vijay. “I wanted a boy and you gave birth to a girl,” he told her, before stopping their bike on the Waghavat bridge in Kapadvanj and pushing Bhoomika into the canal.

Initially, the couple claimed Bhoomika had slipped while they were watching fishes near the canal. Anjana remained silent, fearing threats of divorce and mental abuse. However, days later, she confessed the truth to the police, saying she could no longer bear the weight of the lie.
“My husband told me he was showing her the fishes but pushed her straight into the canal,” she said in tears. “Before I could understand anything, Bhoomika was gone. I stood there helpless.”
According to Kheda SP Rajesh Gadhiya, the case was first registered as an accidental death at Antarasuba police station. But as suspicions grew, police questioned family members and relatives. It was then that Anjana admitted her daughter had been murdered by her own father.
She also revealed years of torture and emotional abuse, especially after the birth of their second daughter, now three years old.
Vijay Solanki has been arrested based on Anjana’s complaint. SP Gadhiya confirmed that all angles are being investigated, including any possible superstitions that may have influenced the crime.
