Mount Carmel students celebrate the school feast, the Feast of Mary, Mother of Carmel

Mangaluru, Jul 16: Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru joyfully celebrated the school feast, the Feast of Mary, Mother of Mount Carmel, the patroness of the school and the 157th Foundation Day of the Apostolic Carmel on July 15th with great devotion and fervour. The day began with a festive thanksgiving Mass for Catholic children and staff celebrated by Fr Deep Fernandes OCD, expressing gratitude to Mother Mary, Queen of Carmel for her maternal care and protection over the past years. The liturgy was meaningfully conducted by students of grade X C, D and E. Blessed scapulars were distributed to the Catholic students and staff after the Mass.

The kindergarten and primary block of the school echoed with devotion, colour, and cultural vibrancy as they gathered to celebrate the School Feast in a grand event orchestrated by the students of Grade 4 C and D. The programme was a harmonious blend of spiritual reflection, artistic expression and heartfelt gratitude, showcasing the children’s deep reverence for the patroness of the carmelites. It commenced with a solemn introduction, followed by a prayer service during which students, offered glowing lamps at the feet of Mother of Mount Carmel in a symbolic gesture of love and devotion.

A warm and vibrant welcome dance ensued, creatively choreographed using coconut shells, each bearing the letters of the word WELCOME. The rhythmic clatter of the shells and the radiant smiles of the performers captivated the audience. Following this, was a gracious welcome speech rendered by Rayansh, Abhijishya and Sweedal. The highlight of the programme was an impactful skit “the gift of the Scapular” conveying deep spiritual messages interwoven with the values embodied by Our Lady of Mount Carmel. A moving poetry recitation presented as a heartfelt tribute to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, with the first letter of the line beautifully highlighting her virtues left the audience inspired and reflective.

The chief guest Sr Corona AC, in her address, shared insights on the history of Carmel and advised the students to emulate the virtues of Mother Mary. Principal Sr Melissa greeted the staff and students on this occasion and appreciated the creative performance of grade 4 C and D.

The occasion also recognized and honoured the creative talents of students who had participated in various competitions held in preparation for the school feast. The winners of National level Spell Bee were awarded trophies and certificates. The vote of thanks was proposed by Pranavi and Ashmita while the programme was confidently compered by Vishruth, Saahitya, Shaun and Poorvi.

The celebration culminated in a spectacular grand finale, where dignitaries joyfully joined the performers in a vibrant expression of festivity, unity, and jubilation, an apt closing to a memorable day. To add to the festive cheer, each student was given a special snack pack with nuts and savoury items.

Prior to this day, a special staff and PTEC get-together was held to mark this joyful occasion which began with a prayer service. The principal, Sr Melissa, warmly welcomed the gathering with heartfelt words, expressing joy in celebrating the school feast together and appreciating the unity and dedication of the staff and PTEC members. In her message, administrator Sr Carissima inspired the staff by reflecting on the characteristics of a mother and beautifully connecting it to the spirit of the school feast. Tr Neetha added a touch of fun by conducting a few engaging games and cash prizes were awarded to the winners. The celebration concluded with a festive meal strengthening the bonds within the school community.

Indeed, the celebration was not only a fitting tribute to Mary, Mother of Mount Carmel, but also a radiant reflection of the Carmelite spirit alive in the hearts of the young students and staff of Mount Carmel Central School.
