Bihar, Jul 18: With the Bihar elections on the horizon, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday rolled out a massive development package worth over Rs 7,200 crore in the East Champaran district, showcasing the Centre's commitment to turning Bihar into a key driver of the Viksit Bharat vision.

Addressing a spirited public gathering in Motihari, PM Modi declared that the days of Bihar’s backwardness were over, and the era of transformation had begun. “Motihari will be like Mumbai, Patna like Pune, and Jaipalpur like Jaipur,” he said, igniting hopes among locals with promises of urban-like development across the state.

The wide-ranging projects cover vital sectors such as railways, national highways, fisheries, and IT infrastructure. The Prime Minister underlined the synergy between the Centre and the state as a "double-engine government" that is fuelling Bihar’s all-round growth.

A major highlight of the visit was the launch of four new Amrit Bharat trains connecting Patna, Motihari, Darbhanga, and Malda Town with important cities like Delhi and Lucknow. Modi also laid the foundation stones for essential railway upgrades — including modern automatic signalling and the doubling of high-traffic rail lines — worth nearly Rs 580 crore.

Further boosting the region’s technological edge, the Prime Minister inaugurated a Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) centre in Darbhanga and a new incubation hub in Patna to foster startups and digital innovation. “These centres will give our youth wings to fly in the digital era,” he noted.

In a bid to ease travel and improve regional connectivity, Modi also laid the foundation stone for four-laning of the Ara bypass on NH-319, which will significantly reduce travel time and decongest traffic.

Concluding his address, PM Modi lauded the people of Bihar for their resilience and aspiration. “I congratulate the people of Bihar for all these developmental projects. This is your victory, your future,” he said, hinting that more such initiatives are on the way in the run-up to the state polls.

With this mega development push, political observers believe the Centre is seeking to strengthen its grassroots presence while transforming Bihar into an economic and infrastructural powerhouse.
