Ahmedabad, Jul 20: In a heart-wrenching incident that has shocked the local community, a couple and their three young children were found dead in a suspected case of mass suicide in Bagodara, near Ahmedabad, on Saturday morning.

According to sources, Vipul Vaghela (32), an auto-rickshaw driver originally from Dholka, is believed to have poisoned his wife Sonal Vaghela (26), along with their children Kareena (11), Mayur (8), and Princy (5), before ending his own life. The family had been living in a rented house in Bagodara and was reportedly struggling to cope with mounting financial burdens.

Relatives revealed that Vipul had purchased the auto-rickshaw on a loan and had been under immense pressure due to the inability to meet his EMI obligations. "He was mentally disturbed for the past few months. The pressure of debt seemed to be overwhelming," said a grieving family member.

Local police were alerted late Friday night after neighbours sensed something was wrong. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless bodies of the five family members lying on two cots. The victims were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital where they were declared dead on arrival.

Senior police officer Vagisha Joshi confirmed the deaths and said an investigation is underway. "We have sent the bodies for post-mortem. Forensic reports will determine the substance used in the poisoning. We are thoroughly examining all angles, especially financial distress," she stated.

This tragic episode has once again brought attention to the growing burden of debt and mental health issues among daily wage earners and self-employed individuals. Community leaders have called for increased support systems and awareness around debt counselling and emotional well-being.
