Mumbai, Jan 31: After a great opening on Thursday, India's Republic Day, Karan Johar-produced 'Agneepath' has already become the big hit of the year, grossing Rs 23 crore at the box office on the opening day. It has not only surprised many, but encouraged lead actors and the producer to throw lavish parties!
It is reported the first six days saw a box collection crossing Rs 70 crore, which means the movie has not only convered its investment, but is now making profit too. Even on Monday and Tuesday, the response was not bad compared to other movie releases.
Karan Johar has dedicated 'Agneepath' to his late father. The movie is a remake of Amitabh's 1990 'Agneepath'.
Reports say that after the first three glorious days (Jan 26, 27 and 28), on Sunday too the movie attracted large crowds, with about Rs 18 crore collection on Sunday alone, which speaks volumes of the popularity of Karan Johar, director Karan Malhotra and trio Hrithik Roshan-Sanjay Dutt-Rishi Kapoor.
The three hour movie, which has less comedy and lots of serious scenes has certainly not entertained all sections of the people, but experts say, the movie will net not less than Rs 100 crore.
The action-packed movie had a big plus point when it was released on January 26, as no other big-budget movie was released that day. Three English movies released on the day failed to get even reasonable success.
Only 'The Descendants' got some notice due to the Oscar buzz and George Clooney's performance. On the other hand, Mark Walhberg's 'Contraband' and director Steven Soderbergh's 'Haywire' did not attract many, states a report.
