Beijing, Jul 23: In a breakthrough for robotics, Chinese tech firm UBTECH Robotics has unveiled Walker S2, the world’s first humanoid robot capable of autonomously changing its own battery—allowing it to operate continuously for 24 hours a day, seven days a week, without human intervention.
The 5-foot-3-inch-tall robot weighs approximately 43 kg and is equipped with 20 flexible joints, enabling smooth, human-like movement. UBTECH shared a demonstration video of Walker S2 operating in an industrial setting, highlighting its advanced mobility and adaptability.

Walker S2 uses a dual 48-volt lithium battery system. It can walk for two hours or stand for four hours on a single charge. The battery fully recharges in 90 minutes, and the robot autonomously switches batteries to avoid downtime.
The robot supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, enabling seamless connectivity. UBTECH says the humanoid is ideal for use in factories, commercial venues, and customer-facing roles, where it can interact with people or perform repetitive tasks independently.
Founded in March 2012, UBTECH is a leading player in humanoid and smart service robotics. It was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in December 2023. The company says it has independently developed a full stack of humanoid robot technologies and is one of the few globally capable of mass-producing a wide range of servo actuators.
“Walker is China’s first commercialized biped life-sized humanoid robot,” the firm stated, reaffirming its mission to bring intelligent robots into everyday life and homes.
