Qatar Outlines 2022 Soccer World Cup Ideas

Doha, Feb 1 (Gulf Times): A delegation from the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee headed by secretary general, Hassan al-Thawadi presented the ideas and concepts behind the 2022 FIFA World Cup to members from the London Chamber of Commerce on Monday.

The presentation was part of the ‘Build Qatar: Property and Construction Opportunities’ event hosted at the offices of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Central London.

Al-Thawadi spoke of his hope of “…creating the foundation for enhancing the already strong commercial ties between Qatar and the United Kingdom.”

He told members of the Chamber of Commerce that “we’re looking for partners who will provide the highest quality technical expertise…forging partnerships that will go beyond the 2022 World Cup…contributing to realising the vision that our country aspires to.”
A member of the Supreme Committee’s technical team delivered a visual presentation to the audience outlining the aspects of Qatar’s successful bid including state-of-the-art stadiums, environmentally-friendly cooling technologies and the modular initiative, which will see stadiums partially dismantled after 2022 and distributed to nations in need of sporting infrastructure.

Al-Thawadi spoke of the importance of “working with partners that will have vested interests in the future of Qatar…to collaborate with us in research and development, innovation, and in creating sustainable solutions for the long-term.”

Other speakers at the event included London Chamber of Commerce chief executive Colin Stanbridge and London 2012 Olympic Delivery Authority’s infrastructure and utilities director Simon Wright.

Stanbridge said that the London Chamber of Commerce was honoured and delighted to host the seminar and keynote address by al-Thawadi.

The event attracted a great deal of interest from London companies, many of whom have been instrumental in the success of the build-up to the 2012 London Olympics.
