Bengaluru, Jul 31: Amid reports circulating on social media and select news platforms about the introduction of new luggage rules by the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), the corporation has issued an official clarification dismissing such claims as false and misleading.
In a press release, KSRTC stated that no new luggage rules have been implemented, and the existing guidelines have been in place since November 5, 1999. The corporation clarified that the system allowing passengers to transport items such as washing machines, fridges, truck tires, aluminum and iron pipes, utensils, cats, dogs, and rabbits has remained unchanged, depending on the availability of space on the bus.
KSRTC further explained that the most recent revision to its luggage-related policies was made on October 28, 2022, which included free allowance of up to 30 kg of luggage per passenger and applicable charges beyond that limit. The corporation firmly stated that no new circular or regulation has been issued after that date.
The clarification comes in response to viral posts suggesting that KSRTC had introduced fresh rules regarding luggage and pet transport. The corporation has termed such reports as baseless and urged the public to rely only on official communication channels for accurate information.
KSRTC reiterated that the current luggage transport system, including guidelines on permissible items and weight limits, continues as per the existing policy framework, with no recent changes made to the rules.
