Three dead, five injured in building collapse at Rajasthan construction site

Jaipur, Aug 4: A tragic incident struck Bharja village in Sirohi district on Monday when the hall of an under-construction house suddenly collapsed, killing three workers and injuring five others, three of whom are reported to be in critical condition.

According to Pindwara DSP Bhanwar Lal Chaudhary, the accident occurred around 12:15 p.m. when a newly erected wall of the house — owned by Bhura Ram, son of Bhuba Ram — gave way without warning, burying eight labourers under the debris.

The deceased were identified as:

• Pipli alias Deepali (40), wife of Moyla Ram Bhil, a resident of Bharja
• Kali, wife of Chunnilal
• Dinesh (18), son of Orsia, from Jude Fali, Watera

All three died on the spot due to the impact of the collapse.

Rescue efforts were launched immediately by police teams from Rohida and Swarupganj, with help from local villagers. The injured were transported to Abu Road Hospital, where doctors declared three of the victims dead on arrival. The remaining five are under treatment, with three reportedly in critical condition.

The incident has triggered renewed concerns over construction safety standards in rural Rajasthan, especially after a similar tragedy just nine days earlier, when the roof of a school collapsed in Jhalawar, killing seven children.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the collapse, and an investigation is underway to determine if substandard materials or lack of oversight played a role.

The district administration has promised compensation to the families of the deceased and medical assistance to the injured.

Local residents and labour groups have demanded stricter enforcement of building safety regulations, particularly at rural construction sites where technical supervision is often lacking.

The dual tragedies have cast a shadow over the state, with mounting public calls for accountability and preventive measures to avoid further loss of life.
