Beltangady police register case over social media post inciting communal tensions

Beltangady, Aug 9: On August 9, in the afternoon, Shekar Laila (43), a resident of Beltangady, was checking his mobile phone when he came across a post on Facebook by one Vasanth Giliyar. The post allegedly contained messages aimed at creating enmity between religions and communities.

Believing that such content could potentially disturb social harmony, Shekar filed a complaint with the Beltangady police station. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under Crime No. 84/2025, invoking Sections 196(1)(A) and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. Investigation into the matter is currently underway.
